This collection of photos were taken in 2016 on a special trip to Tulum, Mexico. Our beach cabana, on the coast of the Mata Riviera – had this simple foot rinse basin positioned at the entrance of the shelter- encouraged to rinse the sand from our feet before entering our bamboo temple like cabana. After seven days of combining and going and rinsing feet- for the first time in my life- I fell in love with the ritual of foot cleansing- leaving the hot Mexican sun to dip into the cool shade and sanctuary like feel of our shelter- still connected to the sound of the ocean waves but more faintly once inside- the rustling of the palm fronds overhead, soft sound if waves meeting shore and relief from the heat- was spiritual- a sanctuary or small temple in the sand.
